Publications

UNICEF publications play a critical role in fulfilling the organization's mandate to advocate for the rights of every child, everywhere. UNICEF flagship publications, such as The State of the World’s Children and Progress for Children, present data that are used for a variety of planning, monitoring and advocacy purposes. UNICEF also produces a number of sector-specific reports. Furthermore, an increasing number of peer-reviewed journal articles have recently been written. Some of the recent articles are featured below:

Understanding caregivers’ attitudes towards physical punishment of children: Evidence from 34 low- and middle-income countries, 2011, 12, 1009-1021

A Mid-Term Assessment of Progress towards the Immunisation Coverage Goal of the Global Immunisation Vision and Strategy (GIVS), 2011

Monitoring Child Undernutrition at National Levels Before and After the Economic and Food Crisis: Data from 20 Countries, The Open Nutrition Journal, 2011, 5, 19-23

Researchers, program managers, and legislators worldwide count extensively on UNICEF publications to assess the situation of children and women around the world. The publications provide the data and evidence needed to implement programmes and plan policies. The media, both locally and internationally, often rely on UNICEF publications to write stories stressing the unique situation of children and women.

UNICEF produces a number of publications in collaboration with its global partners and other United Nations agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and The World Bank.

UNICEF also produces comprehensive reports, technical documents and working papers related to the Millennium Development Goals along with several inter-agency groups such as the Malaria Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group, the Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation, the Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation, the Child Health Epidemiology Reference Group and the UNAIDS HIV/AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group.
