REVISIONS TO MICS QUESTIONNAIRE

November 1999

A number of changes were made to the August 10 version of the End-decade MICS Model Questionnaire to reflect feedback received during two recent MICS workshops for the EAPRO and TACRO UNICEF regions, as well as work on development of data processing packages for MICS surveys, and global databases on water and sanitation.

Household Listing Form

The instructions were changed by deleting the phrase "...and any guests of the household who stayed here last night."

Water and Sanitation Module

Question 1 - Response category "protected dug well or protected spring" was separated into two categories. Response category "unprotected dug well or unprotected spring" was separated into two categories. The response categories were renumbered accordingly.

Question 3 – The following three response categories were substituted for "...other locally used methods of disposal.": open pit ......5; bucket ......6; other (specify)......7. Response categories and skip instructions were revised accordingly.

Care of Illness Module

Question 2 was revised to read: "In the last two weeks, has (name) had any other illness, such as cough, or fever, or any other health problem?"

Question 8 – The numbering of response category "Other (specify)" was changed from 8 to 4.html ht ht 

Malaria Module

Question 7 - The number of response category "Other (specify)" was changed from 8 to 4. html html ht 

Immunization Module

The immunization module was changed with respect to cases when a vaccination card is available but the child was also given vaccinations which were not recorded on the card.

Rather than asking them the whole series of questions administered to children who do not have a card (Q. 6 through 15 on old version), the interviewer prompts the respondent for each of the vaccinations in the table and records "66" in the corresponding day column for Questions 2 through 5. A code of "44" is recorded in the day column if the card shows that a vaccination was given but no date is recorded. html 

Question 1 – Response category "Yes" was changed into "Yes, seen" and "Yes, not seen". Numbering of response categories and skip instructions were revised accordingly.

Question 9 – Checking for BCG scar was eliminated since the information is not used in the calculation the BCG immunization coverage rate.

Question numbering and skip instructions were revised accordingly.

Anthropometry Module

Question 1 – Delete question 1 which checks on BCG scar since it is not used to calculate the BCG coverage rate. Other questions in module were renumbered accordingly.
